The sculpture is a representation of a four star cluster in the Seven Sisters constellation and functions as a mapping of heavenly bodies. The characteristics of the sculpture had strong resonance for the patron and family who commissioned the piece in memory of their husband and father - "…multi-faceted, dynamic, reflective and finely balanced…."
Aesthetics: As the sun moves over the sculpture's planes, each facet reflects light like a gemstone or simulated starlight. The work reveals mathematical precision through the visual sequencing of its geometric planes. This geometry integrates with the structural patterning of the surrounding modernist architecture. At the same time, the warmth and mottling of the earth toned patina roots the piece in its emotional, commemorative place.
